HAZARD RECOGNITION TRAINING
This course takes a hands-on approach to traffic safety by improving the driver’s vehicle control skills as well as his/her understanding of the traffic environment. We start with a short classroom review then move to in-vehicle coached drive. Instead of reacting to events after they are beyond the driver’s control, this gives drivers a positive game plan to minimize the chance of being trapped in hazardous situations.
Students will receive individual coached drives covering; vehicle set-up for maximum vision, injury protection & vehicle control; competence in the use of B.A.S.I.C. skills enhancement (braking, accelerating, steering, in control); Space, Time, Vision application; effective response to hazardous situations; terrain; traffic zones; vehicle types and response; traffic control system scanning to identify warning of potential conflict; strategies for dealing with potentially hazardous situations.
The primary focus is on identifying hazards and dealing with them on city streets and inter-urban roadways. After each student’s coached drive the group will discuss and evaluate each drive session.
An evaluation document for training records can also be provided upon request.
